Woodroze is thrilled to introduce SafeSpecs™ Lens Technology for our 2021 collection!

SafeSpecs™ lenses are engineered to enhance definition and visual clarity while reducing glare, minimizing weight, and maximizing impact resistance.

With the clarity of glass and impact resistance of polycarbonate, SafeSpecs™ lenses utilize a nylon core to combine premium visual definition with everyday practicality.

Improved clarity is the flagship feature of SafeSpecs™ Lens Technology. The majority of sunglass manufacturers opt for polycarbonate lenses, which are lightweight, inexpensive, and impact resistant. Polycarbonate has the lowest ABBE Value (a measure chromatic aberration which reflects the degree of visual clarity) of any material available in the eyewear market, however, regardless of added features such as polarization. The nylon core of SafeSpecs™ lenses provides a 70% improvement in ABBE value/clarity over polycarbonate lenses.

Lightweight & Impact Resistant

While the ABBE value of SafeSpecs™ lenses is on par with glass (the clearest material available in eyewear), there are a number of advantages to utilizing nylon over glass lenses. First and foremost, glass is extremely fragile and prone to shatter while nylon provides total impact resistance on par with polycarbonate and plastic options. Nylon is also significantly lighter than glass (1/10th of the weight on average), which heavily impacts user comfort and pressure on the nose bridge. Lastly, unlike glass, nylon lenses are flexible and capable of bending and returning to their original shape, which allows them to stand up to a wide variety of environmental conditions ideal for modern adventurers and outdoorsmen.

We didn't stop there, however. In addition to providing maximum clarity and durability, SafeSpecs™ lenses are triple coated to reduce peripheral glare, protect against superficial scratching, and allow oils (fingerprints) to be wiped away with ease.
